3 Advantages of Online Advertising

Many businesses are curious about online marketing, but don’t understand how it can directly increase their business or where to go for guidance and direction. Many of them are seeing less return from their advertisements in traditional media like The Yellow Pages, newspapers and direct mailing campaigns, and are looking to explore new ways of expanding their market share.

1. Cost Effectiveness - The starting cost of online marketing is only a fraction of the thousands of $'s that Yellow Pages, television and radio ads cost. For example, an full page ad in the Wall Street Journal costs $164,000 compared to $7,500 for an internet advertising campaign. Also, traditional ads typically run  for a short period of time, a search engine optimization campaign can deliver long-term results.

2. Measurability - Traditional ads in the newspaper or the yellow pages  can make it difficult to assess the direct sales impact for your business. With online marketing, everything can be tracked & detailed in graphs that show traffic growth, leads and sales conversions. Using a free traffic analysis tool like Google Analytics, it is easy to calculate your return on investment .

3. Increased Brand Awareness - In the crowded market, you need to establish and maintain positive brand awareness and client loyalty.  Creating brand awareness is as simple as hiring a marketing campaign agent and discussing your desires for the ad and giving them feedback. A website is the most important marketing tool a business can have. A regularly updated website with well-written content will offer the best value to your clients.

  1. I believe that, as time goes on, more and more companies will shift the majority of their advertising online. I'm currently running a business, and though I'm nowhere near the size of a major corporation, I concentrate most of my advertising online. It's so much easier to engage potential customers, and as more people are spending their time surfing the Internet or on social networking sites, it seems that they're more likely to see advertisements there rather than in more traditional locations.

    1. In my opinion, t.v. ads are being phased out due to the high cost factor and the increase in dvr usage allowing customers to fast forward through commercials.

  2. Online Advertising is definitely the way to go, Ecommerce has grown at a pretty good pace over time and with the internet advertising has also picked up. more and more companies are targeting online surfers this helps them reach out to a wide audience and it is limitless. Take for example YouTube before you watch a video there is a 15sec advertisement. Helps viewers engage and makes it easy to get more information, it is just a click away. its that easy.

  3. I think it's safe to say that online advertising is taking over as the major source of advertising. The only other form of advertising I really even pay attention to is television ads, but even then I have the ability to change the channel and not watch the ad. Almost everyone I know that is running a small business uses online advertising almost exclusively because it is so cheap and pervasive.

    1. DVR's make t.v. ad's less effective and worthwhile since customers can fast forward through commercials and those advertising dollars are wasted.

  4. Does fraud/misrepresentation a lead to a bigger issue with online advertising and strictly online businesses? Like with OtterBox cases for smart phones can be found all over the internet but how do you know if they are real? Since otterbox is mostly an online company and use online advertisements for their customers, how would a 100% online company ensure quality? (I'm asking because I purchased a fake case before that had the same logo and amenities of the real case). Otterbox allowed me to send my case back, and sent me a new case for free. This may be more of a disadvantage, but it's just something to think about when reaching out to customers 100% online

    1. I totally agree with your viewpoint of online only companies. The biggest disadvantage of an online only business is the intangibility factor of their products since the customer can try them on or touch/feel them in person until after the purchase.

  5. The internet has done wonders for just about every business in the world. These three advantages are spot on for online advertising. Point number three is probably the most important because if a large number of customers know about your brand then the business has more capabilities to advertise in different ways. The advantages of having internet makes everything equal so no one has a leg up anymore. There is no longer an excuses of why someone can not advertise for their brand/business.

    1. The internet has allowed even the smallest businesses to get their name out in the marketplace without exhausting their finances.

  6. Online advertising is definitely the future of business. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages by far. Businesses can be more involved in their advertising when using the internet. In the past it was very common to outsource for advertising, but now businesses are able to do it on their own. Online advertising gives businesses more options and more control then they previously had in the past.

    1. Traditional ad's such as t.v. ad's and newspaper ad's allowed for virtually no customization. Today's online ad's allow for limitless customization options.
