Facebook has implemented changes in their privacy
policy. These changes allow Facebook the
use of customer’s comments and personal data for advertising. This new policy
can carry dissatisfaction to their customers since as soon as they make a
comment on their Facebook page; the company has legal rights under that comment
to utilize it as advertising. We do not know how big the implications can be,
but I am sure this new policy will create anger around some customers.
What are your thoughts about this article? Would you be happy if Fb uses your comment to advertise something without your concerning ?

I think it's hilarious when people get so angry about this kind of thing. Is Facebook here to serve us? Is it a basic human need? No! Facebook is a business. We don't have to use it. It's not ours, it's theirs. If I let you come and plant a flower on my property, you do have stake in the flower, but it's still ultimately our land. I know when I post something on facebook, I realize that I'm transferring ownership to facebook. If I don't want what I post to go anywhere, I won't post it. We need to see Facebook for what it is, and what it is not.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Colby. Facebook is a business. That is exactly why I don't use it. Social media takes away from personal relationships. When you post anything it is theirs, not yours. I am reminded of a case when an EMS worker took pictures of Cathy Bates's daughter after a car accident and posted them to Facebook. People who didn't know her daughter knew she was in an accident before her mother did. When Cathy asked Facebook for these pictures, they said no, they owned them. How sad is that? Let's hope they don't use these photos for advertising.
ReplyDeleteI actually think that it is not a bad idea to use that data to better market to people via internet. The problem that comes into play is that the information can be used for much more than marketing research. It could be a window into someone's life. So i would be very careful of what you put up on Facebook; and be aware of what exactly you are agreeing to.
ReplyDeleteI understand how people can be angered over the use of their Facebook information or messages. Facebook is set up to make us feel as if it is "our" wall we are posting "our" information on. We must remember though that in the end the wall is Facebook's property and we are giving them our information. I think the most important thing to remember is to just be careful what you put on Facebook or any site for that matter.
